Be a Defender, not a Pretender

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2021, Advocate and Environmental Lawyer Vikram Rajkhowa urges all of us to reaffirm our vow to fight for our Environment, Nature and Biota at large, through his poem.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender

By Vikram Rajkhowa

“Don’t transgress on the pristine forest of Dehing Patkai and let the trees touch the sky.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Don’t drill at Dibru-Saikhowa and let the Horses ride free and wild.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Don’t block the corridors at Kaziranga and let the animals take sanctuary on the other side.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Slow down or stop, if need be, but don’t run over the Elephants…the gentle beasts.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Don’t release toxic and chemicals and let the Dolphins dance in Kulshi.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Don’t block the natural flow of our rivers and let the fishes thrive.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Deepor Beel is a Ramsar Site, but how sad, if it’s turning into a dumping site.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Don’t throw garbage in the drains, to keep the water bodies clean again.

Be a Defender, not a Pretender.

Plant a tree and take selfie. But protect the wild, the lakes, rivers and sea. Be a Defender of the Environment, not a Pretender.”
