The Tiprasa Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha led by royal scion Pradyot Manikya Deb Barman has announced its merger with Indigenous Nationalist Front of Twipra (INPT) today at a press conference held at the Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala.
In a joint statement issued by the President of INPT B K Hrangkhawl and TIPRA Chairman Deb Barman stated that the decision was taken for the greater interest of the people. ” The INPT and TIPRA have decided to start the process of merging as one single party. We hope that with this we will achieve our goal of thansa and strive for our eventual goal of Greater Tipraland.”
It needs to be mentioned here that Deb Barman thrived to form his own party in the interest of the tribal community of Tripura and formed an alliance of few tribal parties and termed it as TIPRA. One of the major demands of the indigenous parties is the creation of ‘Greater Tipraland’ that stands to bring an end to the socio-economic and deprivation of indigenous communities by forming a separate state with all TTAADC areas under the jurisdiction of the state.
Earlier in April this year, the TIPRA along with its ally INPT has won a majority by grabbing a total of 18 out of 28 seats in the recently held Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls.
